Welcome to Dream, Draw Create!
This blog features art projects for children. These projects have been used in my classes. My lessons allow children to learn about all the elements and principles of art while striving to introduce them to many genres of art.

Painted letters

My fourth grade students learned a lot in this fun lesson inspired by the American artist Jasper Johns.
The students started by using the first letter of their first name and were asked to try and fill the space from top to bottom and side to side.  Paints were brought out and base colors were laid down during week 1.  Our topic during week two was how we could incorporate a color scheme to make our letters pop.  Complimentary colors were reviewed as well as analogous color schemes.  The students really benefitted from this discussion because although they had used many nice colors and patterns their paintings just were not working.  By the end of the second class they had successfully cleaned up their painting techniques and incorporated what they had learned about color.
